-- University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) celebrates its 10th anniversary, reflecting on a decade of growth and success, and is set to expand its programs and partnerships to meet the rising higher education demands in Sabah.
The institution also aims to upgrade its status as a full-fledged university, going forward.
Founded with the vision of becoming a green model boutique university, UCSF has consistently focused on offering cutting-edge programs across a diverse range of fields, including visual arts, business, media, sustainable resource management, accounting and hospitality.
UCSF is currently collaborating with Universiti Teknologi Petronas and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to introduce new courses, including a foundation in science and a bachelor’s degree in architecture. It is also exploring additional partnerships and expanding its academic offerings, with a focus on fields that are underrepresented in Sabah, such as law, pharmacy, artificial intelligence, maritime studies, and dentistry.
The Vice Chancellor Datuk Dr Rafiq Idris said the university is working to upgrade its status to a full fledged university by strengthening its academic quality, research, publication and image standing.
“Being a state-owned institution, despite its size as a boutique university, we will continue to play its role as the 21st century university for Sabah by complementing the higher education needs of the state. UCSF together with other stakeholders, will complement the role played by other institutions to increase and further improve the economic complexity or productive capabilities of the state.
Over the past decade, UCSF has nurtured a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. Each dedicated staff, talented students and supportive alumni have played a tremendous role in shaping UCSFidentity and pushing the boundaries of knowledge and discovery. UCSF is seen as an active academic institution for its academic offering, research activities as well as human capital development training programs and university social responsibility (USR) programs throughout all the districts in Sabah.
To date, the institution has graduated over 3,000 students in Sabah, Malaysia. Its alumni have succeeded in a variety of fields, working in both the private and public sectors, becoming entrepreneurs, or pursuing further education. They are spread across Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, Singapore, Thailand, and a few European countries.
The mission extends beyond merely imparting knowledge. UCSF strives to cultivate a generation of graduates, who are not only green literate but also equipped with essential skills in business, finance, and digital literacy. In an ever-evolving global environment, it is imperative that UCSF students are prepared to navigate the complexities of the modern world and the university is dedicated to providing them with the tools necessary for success.
As a 21st-century university for Sabah, UCSF is not only focused on academic achievement but also on nurturing responsible citizens who are prepared to contribute positively to society. They were also emphasized on the role of various stakeholders in achieving global targets such as the Sustainable Development Goal 2030.
Deeply committed to advancing its internationalization efforts, the institution recognizes the importance of preparing students and faculty for success in an increasingly interconnected world. UCSF is dedicated to fostering its internationalization agenda that embraces diversity, promotes cross-cultural understanding, and facilitates meaningful international collaborations. In this regard, it has signed several MOUs with foreign universities and plans to grow these collaborations in the future.
