Xiamen Launches "2026 Talent Service Month", Empowering Young Talent to Grow with the City and Build a Shared Future

-- The launch ceremony for the "2026 Xiamen Talent Service Month" was held on July 9, drawing more than 200 attendees, including representatives of industry experts and professionals from China and abroad, universities and research institutes based in Xiamen, young business leaders, and delegations of young doctoral scholars from universities outside Xiamen.

The ceremony showcased a series of technological achievements by young professionals, introduced youth talent development programs, and premiered the city's talent-themed promotional video, "Stay in Xiamen, Strive to Thrive." The city welcomes outstanding talent from around the world to choose Xiamen, put down roots, and share in its brighter future.

At the event, an AI-powered "Challenge Master" presented "innovation challenges" to Xiamen's young scientists in fields including artificial intelligence, new materials, and marine industries. Young talent representatives from Xiamen University, Huaqiao University, Jimei University, and other institutions rose to the challenge with their solutions.

The Key Laboratory of Multimedia Trusted Perception and Efficient Computing under the Ministry of Education at Xiamen University has achieved a breakthrough in drone-based spatial intelligence. Its AI model can identify targets in complex, visually crowded settings at speeds up to 300 times faster than the human eye.

A research team at Huaqiao University developing optoelectronic materials and devices has created a perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem solar cell with a photoelectric conversion efficiency of 35%. This innovation significantly improves the power-to-weight ratio at less than 1% of the cost of traditional aerospace photovoltaic cells.

Jimei University's Green Intelligent Ship Research Team has independently developed China's first fully coupled dynamics analysis software for small vessels and marine ranches, and has also achieved the world's first numerical simulation of fifth-order extreme wave conditions.

Integrating science and education with industry, Xiamen University of Technology has developed a new talent-training model centered on "AI plus industry-education integration." In partnership with companies, the university has developed the "Wenyao," "Wenkui," and "Wenyue" large AI models to support young professionals' development. Additionally, the university has also established the China-Malaysia Joint Laboratory on Artificial Intelligence with Universiti Sains Malaysia and other institutions, promoting industry-education integration experience and project cooperation in Belt and Road partner countries and regions.

The Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory has built a talent development system centered on tangible industry results, fostering a clear ethos of "measuring success by real impact and contribution." At the event, Laboratory Deputy Director Xie Tangtang introduced the "Start-up 30+" Talent Initiative, sharing compelling stories of young professionals who have broken through traditional growth barriers through demonstrated achievements. According to the lab, the initiative has identified nearly 20 priority global youth talent projects spanning cutting-edge fields including hydrogen energy, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and next-generation displays.

The newly launched "Hong Kong Young Scientists Xiamen Science and Technology Service Program" is a major step toward deeper innovation collaboration between Hong Kong and Xiamen and a strategic move to accelerate the influx of Hong Kong's innovation ideas and projects into Xiamen. The first group of partners includes the State Key Laboratory of Displays and Opto-Electronics Technologies at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the University of Hong Kong, the JC STEM Lab of Future Energy Systems at City University of Hong Kong, and the Physical AI Innovation Center at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, among others. Their collaborations include joint university-enterprise technology research, technology transfer and commercialization, and co-development of joint laboratories.

To promote integrated talent development across the Taiwan Strait, Xiamen also launched the "Cross-Strait Medical Talent Integration Initiative." The initiative will support cooperation between hospital specialties on both sides of the Strait, dedicated training for young physicians, short-term practice by medical experts, and collaboration between institutions in medicine and engineering, providing talent support for Xiamen's goal of becoming the top destination for Taiwan residents seeking medical care and wellness services. A national-level training camp for physicians from Taiwan is expected to be held in Xiamen this August, launching regular exchange and training activities for cross-strait medical professionals.

As one of Xiamen's signature talent initiatives, Xiamen Talent Service Month has now been held for seven consecutive years. It has become an important platform for showcasing talent achievements, aligning industry with talent development, and promoting international talent exchange and collaboration, attracting professionals and projects from China and abroad. This year, Xiamen is launching the new "International Youth Science and Technology Innovation Ambassador Exchange Program," which will pool wisdom through talent development, join forces through collaborative research, empower innovation through faculty expertise, and expand horizons through BRICS cooperation, intending to build an open and collaborative international network for young talent in science, technology and innovation.

At the launch ceremony, four young Xiamen OPC professionals used technologies spanning "AI + cultural creativity," "AI + video generation," "AI + international communication" and "AI + intelligent algorithms" to revive a Qiaopi (overseas remittance letter) from 1953, vividly conveying the devotion of overseas Chinese to both their families and their homeland, while demonstrating the energy of young entrepreneurs working together across disciplines.

Xiamen is actively building an OPC-friendly development community. It established China's first municipal-level Communist Youth League working committee for the OPC sector and created Fujian Province's first OPC co-creation community, "Super Zygote." The city has built a comprehensive support system covering computing resources, workspaces, financial assistance and market connections. Support includes municipal- and district-level computing vouchers covering up to 60% of costs, integrated one-stop business registration services for OPC companies, and free workstations at beachfront locations and innovation and entrepreneurship centers. Xiamen has also created a dedicated AI track within its key municipal talent programs, offering up to 5 million yuan in startup support to help diverse ideas take root and flourish in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Xiamen is actively implementing youth talent growth-friendly initiatives, providing targeted support for recent graduates and young professionals in internships, workplace training, employment, and housing, while rolling out policies including up to 12 months of free "one-bed" accommodation, rent discounts at 50% for five years, and other benefits. These measures ensure that young talent can arrive with ease, settle with confidence, and stay with conviction.

At the event, Dr. Luo Mengting, a "Young Egret Talent" program participant and associate researcher at Xiamen Branch, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, joined fellow young professionals in sharing through song the sense of security they have found in employment and housing in Xiamen. "From a bed to a room and then to an apartment, Xiamen is working to make sure that every young person can feel at home here," she said.
