-- Jetstar will extend its Sunshine Coast (Maroochydore) to Cairns service through to October 2027, maintaining the only direct air link between the two Queensland destinations.
The seasonal service was previously due to end in March 2027, but will will now continue through to October. The extension reflects steady demand in both directions, from holidaymakers as well as people visiting friends and family, and will add more than 34,000 seats
The seasonal route gives travellers in Tropical North Queensland and on the Sunshine Coast a direct low-fares connection. Flights pause for a short break over February and early March, returning three times a week from 30 March, 2027
Fares start from $94^ one way.
Jetstar Executive Manager Commercial Planning, Scott Zeglin said Queensland is one of the airline's biggest markets.
"Connecting Queensland is a core part of our network, and we're proud to work with Sunshine Coast and Cairns airports to help more people takeoff more for less.
"Keeping these flights going through means more Jetstar customers can get home to family and friends, or lock in a Queensland holiday, on a low fare."
Sunshine Coast Airport CEO, Chris Mills said the extended service would give locals and visitors greater choice when travelling between two of Queensland’s leading tourism destinations.
"Direct flights like this are incredibly valuable to our region, making it easier for people to travel for holidays, visit friends and family, and connect with other parts of Queensland.
“The Sunshine Coast and Tropical North Queensland are both major tourism destinations, and having a direct link between them means travellers can spend less time connecting through other airports and more time enjoying their destination."
