-- The Chain Link Fence Manufacturers Institute (CLFMI) is now accepting nominations for the Les Grube Memorial Design Award, an industry recognition program honoring outstanding projects that demonstrate the most unique, creative, and practical use of chain link fence materials.
The nomination deadline is November 1st, 2026.
Named in honor of Les Grube, a past president of CLFMI and a respected leader in the fence industry, the award was created to highlight the versatility, durability, and design potential of chain link fencing. Since its establishment in 1984, the Les Grube Memorial Design Award has recognized projects that go beyond traditional applications and demonstrate how chain link materials can be used as both functional infrastructure and an architectural design element.
The award recognizes both the designing architect or engineering firm and the installing fence contractor behind the winning project. The selected project will receive a specially designed plaque, along with cash awards of $2,500 for the designing architect and $1,000 for the installing contractor.
Projects eligible for nomination must feature an innovative use of chain link fence materials, including fabric, framework, and/or gates, on a commercial or industrial project. To qualify, the project must be conceived by a professional architectural or engineering firm and installed by a professional fence contractor.
“Chain link fencing continues to prove that it is more than a perimeter product,” said Mark Levin of CLFMI. “Through the Les Grube Memorial Design Award, CLFMI recognizes the architects, engineers, and contractors who use chain link in ways that are practical, durable, visually compelling, and highly creative.”
Past award-winning projects have included public spaces, parks, community gathering areas, transportation facilities, architectural façades, recreational facilities, and other commercial or industrial projects that used chain link materials in distinctive and meaningful ways.
Architects, engineers, fence contractors, project owners, municipalities, and industry professionals are encouraged to submit nominations as soon as possible. Applications may be completed online or submitted using the downloadable application form available on the CLFMI website.
