-- From May 19th to 20th, Professor ZAHARUDDIN MOHAMED and Dr. LIM CHENG SIONG, a group of three experts, from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, visited Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology. They conducted an academic exchange and project negotiation for two days. Under the guidance of the "Belt and Road Initiative", the two sides used the "Digital and Intelligent Craft Workshop" as a platform and reached multiple practical cooperation agreements in areas such as talent cultivation, skills training, curriculum collaboration, and technological research and development. Together, they promoted the cooperation in Chinese and Malaysian vocational education to a deeper level and broader scope.

Panel discussion and exchange: Focusing on the collaborative mechanism and resource sharing
On May 19th, Liu Yongsheng, the vice president and president of Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology, met with the expert team from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Liu Yongsheng pointed out that the professional strengths of the two institutions in areas such as equipment manufacturing and industrial robots are highly compatible. Since the "Digital and Intelligent Craft Workshop" technical and skilled talent training base was established, the cooperation between the two sides has continuously deepened and solidified. He proposed that, taking this exchange as an opportunity, they should focus on the construction of a collaborative operation mechanism, the sharing of high-quality educational resources, and the two-way exchange of academic and cultural aspects. They should deepen practical cooperation and jointly cultivate comprehensive internationalized technical and skilled talents with both an international perspective and superb skills. Together, they should write a new chapter for the educational cooperation and coordinated development of the two institutions.
Professor Zaharuddin Mohamed expressed his gratitude for the warm reception by Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology. He looks forward to leveraging this visit as a starting point to promote the implementation of cooperation in regular teacher-student exchanges, teacher training, sharing of online course resources, etc., to establish a mutually beneficial cooperation model, and help the teachers and students of both schools grow together.
During the interaction and exchange session, the two sides discussed in depth various contents such as teacher-student exchanges, overseas teacher training, joint construction of industrial robot courses, sharing of digital teaching resources, and training of technical and skilled talents. They focused on detailing the implementation of "Digital and Intelligent Craft Workshop" base management, equipment application, and skills training, and clarified the arrangements for summer skills training, teacher interaction and exchange, and short-term student study tours.
Academic Lecture: In-depth Discussion on the Integration of Design Thinking and AI

On the morning of May 19th, Dr. LIM CHENG SIONG delivered a high-level academic lecture titled "Design Thinking and Artificial Intelligence" to over 300 students and faculty members from the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering, and the School of Artificial Intelligence. The lecture was hosted by Yao Wenwen, a member of the school's Party Committee and vice president.
Dr. Lim Cheng Siong systematically reviewed the development process of Industrial Revolution 1.0 to 5.0, and deeply expounded the core characteristics of the Industrial 5.0 era, such as personalization, customization, and intelligence. He combined the practical achievements of Multimedia University of Malaysia in engineering education, AI application, and robot research and development, and focused on explaining the integration paths of design thinking and AI technology in professional teaching of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, etc. He also used the example of students' self-developed robot projects to vividly present the practical results of enabling talent cultivation with cutting-edge technologies, effectively broadening the international horizons of the teachers and students present.
During the interactive exchange session, teachers and students actively raised questions on topics such as talent cultivation in vocational colleges under the background of Industrial 5.0, optimization of theory and practical operation systems, and the prospects of the integration of mechanical, electrical, and AI. Dr. Lim Cheng Siong, drawing on his years of engineering practice experience, provided in-depth answers to each question.
Field trip: Practical teaching receives high praise

During the visit, the expert team conducted on-site inspections of the training base of Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology observed the preparatory simulation drills of the participating teachers and students, and held on-site exchanges with relevant professional teachers on topics such as technology application, project practice, and skills competitions. The expert team highly praised the school's excellent practical teaching conditions and the students' solid technical foundation. This affirmation stemmed from the school's profound accumulation in the field of industry-academia integration over the years. Previously, Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology had received a delegation from the National Academic Committee of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia led by Professor Zahra, who visited its specialized and innovative training center for intelligent control, the training room for intelligent manufacturing production management and control, and the training room for industrial robot technology application. The other party was deeply impressed by the school's innovative construction of the integrated practical-teaching talent training model.
Cooperation deepens: Establishing a benchmark project for "vocational education going global"
The visit of the expert team from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is an important practice for Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology to deepen international cooperation and promote educational openness. The cooperation between the two schools has a long history. In January 2025, the two schools held a ceremony to unveil the joint construction base of the "Digital and Intelligent Workshop", innovatively creating a "Chinese language + vocational skills" training model. In April of the same year, Professor Zahra, led a delegation to visit Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology. Both sides reached a series of important consensus in areas such as technological innovation empowerment, resource integration and sharing, and joint talent cultivation. In May 2025, during the discussion, the two schools conducted in-depth exchanges on teacher exchanges, joint talent training, and scientific research cooperation. They focused on discussing the innovation of a multi-level joint talent cultivation mechanism, promoting the mutual recognition of credits, and exchange student study programs.
Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology stated that it will take this exchange as a new starting point, comprehensively promote the subsequent cooperation with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, deepen professional collaboration and collaborative talent cultivation, continuously enhance the internationalization level of its education, and continue to make efforts in key areas such as joint education, standard collaboration, teacher-student exchanges, and talent co-education. It will fully polish the international brand of mechanical and electrical vocational education, and contribute more wisdom and strength of Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology to serving the "Belt and Road" initiative and promoting the high-quality "going global" of Chinese vocational education.
