100 Paintings by Rob Mango serves as an engaging combination of biography and art critique that details the artist’s journey from Chicago to New York City.

-- Author Rob Mango’s “100 Paintings: An Artist’s Life in New York City” will be featured at the Los Angeles Festival of Books, with his work, which includes drawings, sculptures, and large-scale paintings populated by gods, warriors, shamans, and other notable figures, taking center stage.

The book, which is equal parts monograph and memoir, features Mango's artistic journey from his native Chicago to a pioneering residency in Manhattan's storied neighborhood of Tribeca.

Mango has explored New York City on foot since 1977, its architecture and its denizens, its streets and its harbors providing the former track star with the inspiration for much of his highly individualistic work.

Mango's diverse body of work, depicted in the book, includes vividly imagined, surreal meditations on the artist in the city and abroad, animated by figures from his personal mythology. Drawings, assemblages, sculptures, paintings, and groundbreaking painted-sculptural hybrid works, from 1975 2014, represent Mango's entire life as an artist, including stints in the Midwest, New Mexico, Paris, Prague, Venice, and Tuscany.

Amy K., in a review on Amazon, lauded Mango for reflecting on his evolution as both an athlete and artist, offering a fascinating look into his life, artistic growth, and the cultural scene of New York. "It’s a compelling read for art enthusiasts and those interested in the creative spirit of the city,” said Amy.

Kenika P., another reader, said: "For people that love learning or reading about art, 100 Paintings: An Artist's Life in New York City is a great book teaching readers about Rob Mango and his life in New York City! Readers get a chance to learn about Rob Mango first growing up in Chicago and going to the University of Illinois on a Track Scholarship before the book takes off on his art career.”

Featuring more than 200 vibrant reproductions of his artwork, the book, also available in leading digital bookstores including Amazon and Barnes and Noble, serves as a visual delight that highlights his growth as an artist.
