-- The team will field two cars in the T1+ class of the top-tier Ultimate category. Aliyyah Koloc will drive a Red-Lined Revo GTR alongside Polish co-driver Marcin Pasek, while Adam Lacko will once again team up with Italian co-driver Mirko Brun in a Red-Lined Revo T1+.
For the team, the event serves a purpose beyond the result itself. It is another step in the technical development of both cars and a further test of their reliability under racing conditions. Particular attention will be put on the gearbox on Lacko's car, which caused problems at the recent Italian Baja. The team also views the event as an opportunity to compare data between the two cars in the same category, and to continue Lacko's development in cross-country rally under the guidance of Koloc, who has considerably more experience in the discipline.
Competition at the Hungarian Baja will be strong, with Belgian driver Guillaume De Mévius, runner-up at the 2024 Dakar Rally, among the main rivals. The event covers more than 450 kilometers of timed stages, starting with Friday’s prologue and opening stage, before the bulk of the competitive kilometers is covered on Saturday.
Adam Lacko
The Hungarian Baja marks Lacko's third competitive start in cross-country rallying. On his debut at the Baja TT Cuenca, he finished fifth in the Ultimate category, while at the Italian Baja, Lacko and Mirko Brun took sixth place in Ultimate and fifth in the T1+ category. He is continuing his unusual combination of cross-country rallying with circuit truck racing. The highlight of his season, the FIA European Truck Racing Championship round at Most, awaits him at the end of August.
"It's a huge challenge, but at the same time a real driving pleasure. One week you're dealing with off-road terrain, rocks, the route and long stages; the next, you're sitting in a truck on track, battling for every centimeter. Each discipline forces me to work a little differently. I'm also treating the Hungarian Baja as excellent race preparation ahead of Most, where I'll be aiming to be in peak condition," says Lacko.
Aliyyah Koloc
Aliyyah Koloc returns to competition after a spell in China, where she took part in a T1+ test with the JJ Sport team at the end of July. Earlier this year, she also participated in the grueling Taklimakan Rally where she finished in 10th position as the fastest woman and the highest-placed foreign competitor.
“I really enjoyed my time in China. The testing was intense and gave me some fresh insights, but now I’m glad to be back in race mode. The Hungarian Baja will be a completely different challenge. I’m also looking forward to continuing to work with Adam. It’s a bit strange to be mentoring someone with his level of experience, but I do have more kilometers under my belt in cross-country rallying. If I can help him learn faster, I’ll be happy to do so,” adds Koloc.
